Day 4 on the WEIOR Operation Trailer Recovery. This video is day 4 on the WEIOR. I will be releasing days 1-8 at a later date. This video is not on the actual trail of the WEIOR but a retrieval of a trailer we had to leave on the trail the day before. I thought I would post it up as a teaser for what is to come.

This trip is next weekend. Just did some looking and no snow out there now. Some snow/rain possible Friday night Saturday morning. Temps in the high 20's to low 40's. Should be a good day to be out.

Winter Wonderland VIII
Feb 2, 2025
Time: 7:00am
Meet Place: Grand View Gas 110 ID-78, Grand View, ID 83624 (Could be across the street for more parking)
Destination: Desert
Estimated Duration: 1 day
Estimated Distance: 116 miles Grand View, Grand View, ID.
Comms Channels: HAM=146.480, GRMS=17, CB=13

A winter day out in the desert again. If weather permits, we will travel a old trail/road that follows near the Bruneau River. This route starts at 2400ft and slowly rises to 5100ft. If there is snow, like all the other winter wonderland trips, we will continue until we can't. Of all the Winter Wonderland trips we have taken so far, we have been slowed down, but never stopped by snow or mud. Can we make it this time? Join us and find out...

View attachment 288746

This trip will be mostly two track with a bit of 3/4 season roads. The two track portions could be tight with sagebrush. Road conditions could be muddy, snowy, wet, dry, frozen or a combo of all or some. That is the chances you take with the Winter Wonderland trips. You just never know what to expect.

Be prepared for cold weather since this is February in the desert. It can be nice or quite cold, again hard to judge this time of year. Better to be prepared than not.

This is not a guided tour and all who attend are ultimately responsible for their own safety. I am not responsible for damage, injury and or death. You partake under your own free will knowing the dangers of such activities.

Hope to see you there! George.

After many years of successful trip planning, I finally made a huge mistake. The Winter Wonderland trip mentioned above was actually for Saturday 1st and not Sunday 2nd, today.

This morning, I had a facebook contact wondering where everyone was and when I double checked the dates, I found the horrible mistake. I can't tell you how bad I feel for everyone who may have showed up for this trip today. All I can say is that I am very sorry, and I hope this does not discourage anyone from coming out for future trips. I really enjoy going out with everyone and sharing a day of adventure and I can only imagine the thoughts of showing up and no one is there. I feel terrible.

To help alleviate this from happening again I will be posting up trips with day and dates so if there is a discrepancy hopefully it can get corrected well before something like this can happen again.

Again, so sorry to let you guys down with this event. I hope you can accept my apologies. George.

These things happen George! I honestly had missed that it was posted for today, and just assumed that it was yesterday. If it had been today, I could have gone!

Thanks. All of my trips are on Saturdays unless they are multi day trips. My notes were correct. I must have fat fingered the 2 on the main document and it went out as a typo to all the other sites. I had some people contact me to verify that it was Saturday, but nothing was mentioned about the date discrepancy. Like you they probably just figured it was Saturday and verified with me. Still does not make me feel any better though.

St Anthony
Thursday April 17-Sunday April 20, 2025 (April 17-20, 2025)
Time: 10:00 am in Rupert / Carvan from Boise 7:00 am
Meet Place: Valley Wide Country Store, 910 S Oneida St, Rupert, ID 83350 / Carvan from Boise meetup location On The Run Travel Center, 10026 S Eisenman Rd, Boise, ID 83716
Destination: Snake River Plain
Estimated Duration: 4 day
Estimated Distance: 270 miles Rupert to Arco. 206 miles between fuel stops.
Comms Channels: GRMS=17, CB=13

Starting in Rupert, Idaho (Check carefully for caravan meetup location and time above) we will attempt to cross the Snake River Plain to St Anthony Sand Dunes. I expect a 2 day trip since there will be a late meetup time in Rupert. If anyone is interested in going onto the sand dunes be aware any vehicle on the dunes MUST have a flag that is at least 8 feet off the ground with a 6"x12" orange or red flag. There will be limited access points to the dunes at this time as well since the area around the dunes is closed for winter wildlife protection still.

After the Dunes we will start to head east to Howel, Id where we will try and find old Petroglyphs and a iron door in the mountain to finish off the trip.

This trip will be mostly two track and 3/4 season roads. The two track portions could be tight with sagebrush. Road conditions could be muddy, wet, dry, or a combo of all or some.

Be prepared for cooler weather it is still spring time in the desert. It can be nice or quite cold, again hard to judge this time of year. Better to be prepared than not.

Some camp spots may be pretty bare and open to the elements. Bring good tiedowns!

This is not a guided tour and all who attend are ultimately responsible for their own safety. I am not responsible for damage, injury and or death. You partake under your own free will knowing the dangers of such activities.

Hope to see you there! George.

I'm gonna try and make this one. I'll be bringing the trailer, but I might bring the truck this time.

I'm not likely to have the xterra fixed in time.

Yeah, due to circumstances last year, I couldn't really make any of the trips. I've already ordered a new leaf spring center bolt to replace the one that took a hike. That's why my axle shifted. I was able to get it to an o'reily parking lot, and @David H and I managed to get it mostly back to where it was supposed to be. It drove fine on the way home, so when the part gets here on Saturday, it should be a relatively easy fix, once I can get to it.

I also noticed a rattling sound that got faster as I sped up, once I got off the freeway. Not sure what it is yet.

I'm not going to get to it before the 17th, so I'll be bringing the truck on this trip. I've not taken the truck on a multi-day George trip....so this should be fun.

Mosty open desert. Not expecting anything too rough or complex. Unless there is rain could get slimy and muddy.
