I'm building my Jeep JK Unlimited for overlanding road trips. I feel like I should leave the lighter factory bumpers on to help with mpg and vehicle performance. Any suggestions or advice?

What about looking into aluminum options? I know Wilco makes a pretty nice bumper that I believe is Aluminum. I'm sure there are many more as well.

I went to steel for the winch mount, light/equipment mounting options and durability. Yes they're heavier, but the stand up so much better if you plan on taking on rough terrain. Plus most will give you better clearance for dealing with obstacles.

it really depends on what your plans are for the jeep. If you're not worried about approach angle, winch or added recovery points then there is really no need to upgrade.
