Howdy All,

I am planning on doing the Niagara Rim Poker Run in Mid July through the 4x4 in Motion Club. The event is a Friday-Saturday and should be most of the day. Sunday through Tuesday, my son and I plan to overland and camp in the Stanislaus NF. However, I have never been past Sonora and am unaware of where to camp (I am fine with boondocking) and where to go/see in the Dardanelle/Pinecrest areas. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I searched online and in the OB forum and can't find any good descriptions or suggestions.

I will be in my JKU Wrangler with my overland trailer and we would like to fish, creeks, streams, lakes, rivers etc. if possible.

Thanks in advance.
Mike

There are several camp grounds up at Clarks Fork, just before Tuolumne Meadows. They are run by Dodge Ridge Ski Company. If you end up there, look for Milt, he is a campground host at one of them. Good guy.

I know the area fairly well and know of a few dispersed campsites right on the Clavey River. Let me know if you are interested I can send a .kml file. Clark's fork area is also really nice but no dispersed camping. Herring Creek is also pretty nice.

Not to steal someone's thread but I would love some information on campsites along the Clavey River :)

I camped at Fence Creek CG ($8/night) and was impressed with it's remoteness and access to offroad trails and the Middle Stanislaus. We also camped at Niagara Falls CG (VERY Dusty!) and the Fraser Flat CG (Had a nice creek running by it, but was very busy and not remote enough for my taste.)

Awesome Photos, I was in the area a couple of weeks ago. If you take FR 6N06 (the road Fence Creek CG is on) all the way to the end there is a great lake for swimming and cliff diving. Sword Lake, it is about 4 mile hike in, but definantely worth it. The water is much warmer than you would expect and absolutely gorgeous.20170701_122332.jpg
