Always thought it was the wrangler wave. I drive a cookie cutter jku rubicon and I don't always get the wave. I still have the scars on my wrist from when I don't get the wave back....I take it pretty hard. Isn't there a thread on this a?

Wranglers usually get a wave. Stock XJs/wj/wk usually don't because well there are tons of them and that's alot of waving and most likely are just grocery getters . I could be wrong to assume such things but I don't believe I am. Honestly I get more waves from people in stock jks then other jeeps. Again I'm assuming it's because there like me and new to the jeep seen and wave at everybody like your the kid on the bus who likes the taste of cold glass.

Lol there is a lady that lives literally around the corner. Has a jku almost identical to mine, minus the rack cb and dirt and I never get a wave....ever. I feel like knocking on her door and filling her in.

That being said 2 blocks over is a modestly set up fj and we wave, heck I should introduce him to the site now that I think about it.

I wave at anyone who waves at me. Unless a Jeep is modded and more than likely an off roader, I don't even bother though unless they wave first. AFAIK, the Jeep wave in my area has traditionally been among Wrangler style Jeeps. When I'm driving my Grand Cherokee, I don't even think about it. I actually kinda dread the Jeep wave, I just like to enjoy the drive. But when the top and doors are off, that's when the waves really show up.

Jeeps are everywhere here where I live, and I just don't get it, as very few of them ever see dirt two tracks. I had wranglers in my previous life, ( hence my given on line name, e-mail, utube, other forums, etc ) and quite frankly I thought the whole wavey thing was pretty stupid. I don't know these people, 99% of them are mall krawling Barbie and Kens, so I just didn't wave. I understand, I had jeeps. Now I have an 80 series and will never go back. Thankfully there are very few 80s on the roads here, and people just don't know what it is. When we do encounter one another waves are sometimes exchanged but not to the point of distraction... Here is my rig before the 80 and everybody in wranglers waved at me...DSC01080.jpg

I have an XJ also... i notice the same thing. I don't wave first anymore, it is not worth the effort. Jeep wave is now dead and the "Overland Wave" is now alive!! (I am the originator of that phrase! lol) If you have a modified overland rig or cool rig of any brand I wave. IMO the Jeep wave, at least in its original form is now dead. It has become that there are too many "snobs" thinking their mall crawling JK makes them more elite than a WJ-XJ-ETC....

Lol "snobs"always comes up for jk owners. Maybe I should start carrying Some Grey Poupon instead of the trusty yellow stuff.

I guess I should have been more clear, not ALL JK owners are this way, only the ones around me seem to be. We have a ton of decked out JK's and you can tell the only off roading they have seen is when they parked in on the front lawn to wash it. But, not all JK owners are this way. I have met many good ones.

As a JK owner, I wave at every Wrangler I see and probably get a unusually high 80% return rate in my area. It's not that I feel elite or bias towards other Jeeps, it's that I spend enough time trying not to miss a Wrangler that I often find that I should be paying more attention to the road and traffic. I couldn't possibly see every other Jeep model that goes by. Add to that, that 99% of them would look at me funny if I waved to them.

What I do notice now more often is what I call "rigs" or built up Jeeps or even other overland vehicles waving to me. I got excited the other day when a lifted XJ, tire on the roof and all, waved to me unexpectedly and I had to hurry up and wave back. I'll return a wave to anyone, but it helps if I'm anticipating one and it doesn't catch me off guard.

Chevy Colorado (1st Gen) owners don't wave at each other. We know we suck....we don't need reminded by others!

I know what you meant just making jokes. I know I'm not a snob so I wasn't offended. I do however have some nice mustard in my fridge:tearsofjoy:

Lol I actually hate mustard.. Even Grey Poupon is beneath me. I drive an XJ so only the best for my house. We rock that Heinz Ketchup, only in the glass bottle.

I love how some consider people who drive JKs elitist. The Jeep wave started with Wranglers, if I initiate a Jeep wave it's to another Wrangler, plan and simple. If I get a wave from someone else, I'll wave back, and if I see a rig I like, I'll wave at them too. However I wouldn't wave to a normal XJ, WJ, WK, etc.. even if they have a lift, etc. They're not part of the "Jeep" wave.
