With the Baofengs he can always program the MURS channels in it and use those. It is legal and runs a bit more power than the FRS stuff (0.5w for FRS 2w for Murs).

Yes, but the way it was stated is that he's allowing radios out of his control to be used on Ham bands by non licensed operators, a clear violation of the law and something you studied to get a tech license and should be aware of.

Yes very true. I was just suggesting a "work around" that is legal. I'd rather see his friends get their ticket. it is easy and fun.
Speaking of fun Field Day is coming.

I'm looking forward to Field Day, going to be operating with the club from our clubhouse. A couple members and I had talked about portable/battery operations from one of the rarer counties but it just hasn't worked out for us this year.

Sounds like a good way to spend Field Day. I'm running the one for the fire dept, we usually pull out the Conn van and throw in some emergency preparedness to boot.

I'd highly recommend signing up and QRZ.com. They are a good resourse for hams and they have free practice tests. The best part about the practice tests is that the questions and answers are the exact same ones on the real test. The only difference is the order the answers are in. Here is a link to the practice test with instructions for a free account. Tghey don't send you anything or sell your info so it is safe to use. https://www.qrz.com/hamtest/

Can't thank you enough, sir ... I basically had four days to study for my technician's test. I read the Gordon West book and took the practice tests on the QRZ Web site. I must have taken a hundred of those practice tests ... I missed one question today when I took the official test. I should have my call sign in about a week ... Thanks again for directing me (and everyone else on here) to the QRZ Web site ... It was invaluable!
