Hey all!
Just wanted to share a few pictures of our prototype pre-production rear ladder mount gear bag and see what you all think. I made the original one seen here in the photos for myself, not intending to put it into production but the response I've gotten so far makes me re-think that. I designed it as kind of a day pack if you will. There is a lot of times when my tire bag is just way to big for what I need or I'm not running with the rear mount spare tire at all. I wanted something smaller for when my wife and I go out paddle boarding, mountain biking, or hiking for the day and just need/ want a little bit of exterior space to stash stuff like helmets, gloves, towels, blankets, jackets, etc... and be useful while we were sitting around by the vehicle. I really didn't need a huge trash bag or gear bag for a week long trip. The idea was to have something that was quick and easy to take on and off but really secure when attached to the ladder. I also wanted it to be as close to water proof as possible and be able to last in the sun, so the bag itself is made out of PVC coated vinyl, seatbelt webbing straps, and aluminum buckles where ever possible. So far it has fit the bill perfectly with the added bonus that it works great for ice and beer as well as a truck tailgate bag and you can wear it like a backpack to transport stuff too! I will be making a few changes to the final design but for the most part this is what it will look like. All will be available with black webbing and the bags will be available in black, grey, tan, and white. Price to be determined. Thanks for taking a look and keep an eye out for some more bags and gear coming soon!

Wow! That looks great! I don’t have a ladder on my WK2. Are the straps long enough to wrap vertically around the tailgate glass and hang it from there?

Thank you! The way mine is set up, it's not long enough but It would be nothing to make the straps longer on one.

Looks awesome! I could run it that way, too. Can’t wait to see the final specs and price.

I love the idea, especially the reinforcement straps that wrap under the bottom of the bag. I'm not so sure about hanging helmets off it, however. The back tends to get very cruddy with dust and road grime, plus, those helmets can flop forward into the tailgate and damage the paint. If they were secured around the bag in some way so they wouldn't move then maybe... but I still don't think I want my helmet covered in dust and road grit.

This could also be a great spare tire accessory - any plans to make different sizes?

Thank you! Yeah I definitely don't drive with anything hanging off the bags, I always keep my helmets and gear inside the bag but it works great to hang them from when we're at the trailhead getting ready or finishing up. I do have another bigger bag coming out, it's the same design as this one but about twice the size. It should be out in the next couple of weeks. You can follow McCann USA on facebook for updates too.
