For lower MPGs, small differences represent major savings, while at higher MPG the savings diminish quickly. For a 1000 mile drive, 5 MPG is 200 gallons, and 7 MPG is 143 gallons, so that 40% increase of 2 MPG saved you 57 gallons of fuel. 20 MPG is 50 gallons, and 28 MPG is 36 gallons, so that 40% increase of 8 MPG saved you 14 gallons of fuel. 30 MPG is 33 gallons, and 42 MPG is 24 gallons, so that 40% increase of 12 MPG only saved you 9 gallons of fuel.

doesn’t have the cool factor.
I think it's pretty effing cool, and you have ~instant setup. I debated long and hard on the long bed crew cab fullsize but ultimately decided not to for reasons I get into in my previous thread. I think it makes a bit less sense in a short bed midsize (I'm 6'3").

The username checks out! That's a good to keep in mind, my BBNP trip was 4200 miles so going from say, 22 to 18 would cost 100 bucks. Not the end of the world at all (540ish to 440ish) assuming I didn't garbo the math this time.

On the RTT front, I'm really liking the clamshell/wedge type for the massive headroom/ability to easily change. I'm not super concerned about the price difference vs the older style pop up since I came in pretty far under budget on the vehicle. They don't seem super popular on here, but they also seem to be somewhat new.
