Gary and Chris talked about their NV trip.

I haven't heard back about the status of having Mike Barr doing erosion control at the culvert site in Long Canyon.

As some of you know, the frame on my Gladiator was bent and is now fixed, I am trying to find eight people to help put our OVRLND camper back on the truck.

I was thinking about next Saturday or Sunday around 0900-1000 hrs at our house in El Dorado next to Placerville. August 3 or 4

Thanks to eight awesome members, the camper is on 2x4’s sitting on saw horses. If we can get eight members again it will make lifting the camper back onto the Gladiator very easy and it shouldn’t take more than 15 min to get it done. (I'll have coffee and apple donuts from Apple Hill on hand.)

Sierra Foothills August meet up

Great meet up last night, stories shared of past trips and upcoming trips. Mike from M&J Automotive went over the tools that he has in his rig and why he carries what he does. Mikes expertise and knowledge is incredible, along with his partner Joe they seem to be able to figure anything out. Defiantly the guy to have on a trip.
I would highly recommend M&J Automotive for a pre trip inspection of your rig, it could save you more than money and give you peace of mind when in the middle of nowhere.

Last night's meetup consisted of a demonstration of the Gluetread sidewall patch kit. The kit was an older version that had an activator included in comparison to the upgraded product that does not need an activator.

A one inch cut was put in the sidewall of a tire then per the instructions a patch fitted to the size needed, when we opened up the kit the glue tubes were found to be hardened. (none of them had been opened)

After looking at the tubes we concluded that it was CA glue (super glue) so Joe from M&J Automotive our host got a container of CA glue and the patch was applied and the activator was used per the instructions.

The patch held perfect, the tire was inflated to 35 psi and has held air for over 12 hours.

Some points that were brought up at the meet up;
Make sure you follow the directions perfectly, this will insure that the patch holds. (I didn't do this one time in the desert and it failed)
If you have a patch kit you need to check the glue periodically.
Regular CA glue seems to work.
Gluetread has a current ad campaign touting that by having their kit you don't need a spare tire. I would propose that this is a false sense of security, the kit allows you to make an emergency repair and ideally you would then use the repaired tire as a spare. Also there are some sidewall tears that can't be patched or plug stacked, in this case you better have a spare.

All in all it's a great product and for me it means I probably will no longer be taking tires off of rims and sewing the sidewall. ;-)
