Shocks - boots or no boots?

Do you run boots on your shocks or no? Why do you run them that way?

Bilstein 7100 10" Short Body shocks. No boot as they didn't come with them, and I kept it that way.

Fox 2.5" x 11" on custom mounts on rear of Xterra. I run generic boots with drain holes because chrome plated shafts are not ding proof.
