Shafer road is part of the White Rim Trail outside Moab. I have mountain biked the 100 mile trail several times and driven it a couple. Love the area. Can't wait to go again.

White Rim is awesome! But I would recommend a spring or fall trip. Summer may be less than enjoyable!
