Separate ground to rear of truck for aux. power panel

Question! I have an onboard Viair compressor mounted in the bed of my Pro 4X that I want to power up. I’m running #4 awg. from the hot battery terminal through a 30 amp circuit breaker, 40 amp relay to the bed. The #4 isn’t a problem, but do I need to run a separate negative lead back there or can I use a chassis ground from the bed frame up to the connecting point for the compressor. I have two HD terminal strips mounted next to the compressor to make all the connections for the compressor power. Suggestions or corrections welcome. Thanks...

I have done the same.. 100 amp circuit breaker under the hood. #4awg to the rear (positive only). Negative wire to the frame. I located an area already used as a ground and added to the same site. I use Anderson connectors mounted at the bed rail that run my viair compressor.

And a HF radio, well all coms should be dedicated ground back to battery.
