Sardinia & Corsica 2019

Now i finally found the time to load up some pictures from our 8 week trip trough Sardinia and Corsica from 29.04.2019 - 22.06.2019. I was on parental leave at this time and went on this trip wirh my wife and our then 10 month old daughter. We circled around the coast of Sardinia starting in Olbia in the north and following the eastern coastline to the south and than the way up on the western coast to catch the ferry from Santa Theresa di Gallura/Sardinia to Bonifacio/Corsica.

Corsica was more or less a zigzag course from cosat to coast through the mountains. We stayed mainly on campgrounds, cause Corsica is a bit risky for wild camping. We drove a couple of trails, forest roads and dirt tracks there. Here are a couple of pictures, some more you can find on instagram @ _family_overland.

Hey there, i jst read your comment and we are planing a trip to Corsica in Sept/Oct. It will be a 14 days trip there and i want to prepare myself for the roads we want to take. Did you use a special road book etc to find tracks offroad?

You mentioned that it is difficult with free camping, but what do you exactly mean? Restrictions, ppl who are mad about it, dirty places?

For tracks, i used wikiloc and "Trackbook Korsika" from Göttenbauer& Lindenblatt.
Free or Wild Camping is not allowed in France and Italy. We did that anyway but it depends on the location and the season. We were there during the wildfire season and thats a time when i definitely wouldn't recommend to do it. Fines could reach up to 1.000€ and yes, the Locals could reacts quite violent. In September/October its way more relaxed.. I bought the Trackbook in my local Bookstore but you can also buy it at amazon for 25€. cheers Phil

Hi,

We were in Corsica at the end of 2019. A great island that has much to offer. Mountains, seaside, beaches, fantastic vegetation, great tracks - simply something for everyone and relaxed to travel. Have taken the ferry to and from Livorno, which brings you quickly on and off the island. In October it was no longer so crowded, but it may be that some campsites, restaurants, sights already close at the time of year.

By the way, I just had the Trackbook Sardinia written by the same authors as the above mentioned Trackbook Corsica in the hands. I like the book very much and I think it is very suitable for a tour (but I have not driven with it myself). It contains numerous well-described route descriptions in roadbook style and you notice that it was written by experienced travelers. I also liked the included "etiquette" with rules of conduct and tips, so that we - if everyone behaves accordingly - can hopefully drive the great tracks for a long time.
