RTT that opens over the tailgate?

Greetings All,
I am searching for a RTT that can be mounted in a way that the opening/ladder is over the tailgate. I have found a few where people rotate the tent but have to make additional adjustments to do so Vs. just mounting it. Does anyone out there have such a setup? or at least an idea of a good company to look for?

Its not so much the tent but the mounting, i have had it over the back on all my cars

I know the Yakima tents do this out of the box without any drilling. I had the first generation and it was poor quality but they seem to have addressed the problems in the newest tents. Might be worth looking at.

the Tepui tents I have, have pre-drilled mounting holes for the tent mount rails can go in either orientation. Like said above, it's the mounting rail orientation, not the tent itself. I would be surprised if the other mfgs don't do the same as Tepui with the either direction mounting.

Some tents have to option where you can enter either through the side or back.

I think most tents would be able to be oriented to have an opening at the rear

Just make sure to check the site before you purchase one. I just recently got the Tepui Ayer 2 and was very surprised to find out that the it doesn't support folding off the rear. My guess is has to do with the size since it's their smallest one. It did make my tent orientation decision a lot easier.

I have that one, you could make it open out the back, you’d just need different mounting brackets or you could take the mattress off and drill some holes in the proper rear orientation

One thing to consider with some tents and mine included is if you change the orientation of the support bars you may well need to cut them down, in my case I had enough adjustment on the front runner rack mounts to keep the supports in the same place

Did you have problems with one too? I had the first gen and it fell apart after 2 trips. Yakima support literally told me "Those were our first tents and they aren't good. You should return it to REI if you can." and that is exactly what I did.

My Yakima Skyrise 2 is only 2 months old. I've used it twice so far, both times in rain. I have zero complaints with this tent, and would be curious to know what went wrong with yours. Maybe I just got lucky? Can't be that. That never happens.

Yakima used velcro on the two straps that hold the tent closed tight while you put the cover on. The velcro is all stripped up after a year and wont hold. We jerry rigged it with luggage straps. Also the tent itself likes to pop out of the tracks that hold it to the base. Its a quick fix but its annoying.
We have also bought two racks from them and both came with either defective or missing parts.

I am only considering the Yakima because I am already invested in their rack system, core locks, basket, etc. Plus I like the way their tent mounts onto the crossbars, which is a configuration I am already used to with their Yakima awning, which I already have lol.

I would definitely recommend looking at the HD tents if you're looking at yakima. I had the regular tent and the nylon was super thin. I ended up ripping it super easily. The new HD ones have way thicker tents.

I did love the clamp system though. I could pop it off and get it in the garage in about 5 minutes without help.

Thanks for the recommendation I will def research more as I’d like to get a RTT this Summer.
