Hello all,
New to this app, new to Overlanding, new to roof racks & RTTs..

I have a ‘16 Jeep Wrangler JKU (4-Dr) and have decided on the FrontRunner Extreme Slimline II roof rack (full).
I am looking for a good quality, lightweight, hardshell RTT that’s easy set up/take down for a solo woman.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance yall. Have a wonderful and safe day!!!

*im sure this has been asked a dozen times before, like I said I’m new to the app and unsure how to search specific questions..*

If money is no object, then consider the James Baroud tents. Easy set up’ light weight, and good enough to pass on to your grandkids. James Baroud Evasion Rooftop Tent
Another RTT to strongly consider would be the Roofnest.

My brother-in-law purchased a Tuff Stuff hardshell tent. I didn’t think much of it as It lasted only 3 years before the shell started looking like something the car drug home.

I'm on my second T Stuff hardshell. They sent me a new one when I showed them where the shell was developing fissures. Second one I have kept waxed per recommendations and clear coat is still starting to peel. Guess I could put some kind of vinyl wrap on it but will probably look for a better style at some point.

As far as ease of use, if you have the money there are probably ones that deploy with the push of a button. Then, there's this tariff thing that some jeanious came up with...since they are mostly made across the Pacific I wouldn't procrastinate if serious. There is one really nice one that comes from S. Africa? Australia? Asspensive also. I'm liking the low profile, smaller RTTs like the James Baroud's. Also from overseas. They are hard shell I believe and probably make some that are quite a bit lighter than the one I have. Love the large space but need to go lighter.

Pro Tips: You probably don't want a soft shell for ease of use. (Nebermind, hard shell, got it) Get something like a short, light aluminum ladder to stand on for repacking. Please don't fall! I use a telescoping boat hook for a number of things including deploying RTT. I also keep a flat, strong piece of wood about the size of a 12" ruler to help stuff the material back under the shell when packing.

So started down the rabbit hole:

Probably doesn't get much easier than this one.

yes we have and a deep rabbit hole indeed. RTTs deserve themantra, you get what you pay for.
