Roof Top Tent Mount - Cross Bars?

Hello everyone,

I see many methods to installing roof top tents on a vehicles. In this video, I install Garvin Industries cross bars kit on my roof rack in preparation for a testing out a roof top tent. How did you mount your tent, or if you have bikes and other gear what did you use? For reference these cross bars from Thule are rated for 600 pounds, more than enough to support the tent properly.

I mounted a CVT on an ARE canopy using Yakima towers and round cross bars on a track. The ARE was the "Outdoorsman" model, designed to carry higher loads. I had it up there for a little over a year and had no issue with it. I ended up selling the tent, due to the want for space for different racks on the roof and I wasn't 100% into the canvas tent in the PNW.

As you may notice in my profile picture I mounted the tent on the cover and uprights sold by Diamondback. I like the storage on top of the cover and the rear view when not otherwise loaded. I also acquired some locking mounts to fasten the tent to the bars. I may be a little overboard on security but I like my stuff to be there when I need it. FWIW, I added a front receiver for a nice aluminum cargo carrier for a roto-molded cooler and small generator.
