@Jeep4venturing
I am looking for some sort of tiedowns to hold stuff in my roof rack that isn't one of those with the big ratchet straps that likes to jam up and make me climb on the roof to pry open with a screw driver.
I'm a big believer in quality rope and a few good knots.
1) Tie off to the truck roof / rack with a Bowline (
http://www.animatedknots.com/bowline/index.php )
2) Pass loose end over cargo as needed, through tie down on roof/rack, pull tight, tie a 1/2-hitch (
http://www.animatedknots.com/halfhitch/index.php )
3) Repeat step #2 back and forth over cargo to secure.
4) On last pass Pull tight, then tie a trucker's hitch to secure the load (

Alternatively a variation of the cleat knot can also be used to finish the tie down if the ending is near a vertical support on roof rack (

If you really have a hard time with knots Look into getting a few Figure 9's
Sorry about the Tiny URLs The direct Amazon links got converted to Media tags and failed to show in the post.
I also highly recommend LoopAliens (
https://loopalien.com/ ) I picked up a number of these during their kickstarter and have been using the hell out of them ever since. A buddy got the Chinese knockoffs from ebay or Amazon and the ones he got were not properly finished leaving some of the edges sharp enough to cut the cord and come undone.
