I feel your pain, we are over $16,000 into our 90 toyota truck. Far beyond the point of selling him for what we put into him. But its very nice knowing we will get some more good years out of him.
What part of WA you in?
Heard that! I'm upside down with my rig as well... I figure that if ya love your truck and you're not building it up to sell it then build it how ya want it and enjoy the trip!

LOL So i took everything here, decided I'd do some Google Research. Discovered my truck probably has cancer and an std. Besides that I think you're right. This doesn't look too bad for a total newbie. I'm gonna go for it. Step one. Find a suitable engine. I am ruling out a rebuild of this one, too many unknowns that might make a rebuild price go way up. I kind of doubt I'll find a good used one, but I'm going to hunt around anyway. But the final option is a remanufactured motor. Anyone have advice on who to order from, or not. Just a quick glance suggests that Summit Racing and Autozone are about comprable. I was thinking about calling my new local mechanic (what said he didn't want to work on the truck...) and ask if he could get me a good price for a little on the top.

Yeah, so.... As I've been delayed in gathering up the money and tools to finally tackle this thing (everything happens slow with 2 kids in diapers, yeah?) I've had the time to reflect and shop and drive other rigs, take a few camping trips with the two babies, and we've come to conclude that we're not going all that far off the beaten path with these guys until their older. What trips we do take can be done in my wife's minivan. So I'm selling/scrapping if necessary the Suburban. I hope someone buys her. But for half the money the suburban needs I can get a pretty sweet second generation 4runner 3.slow v6 in manual (which makes it tolerable) which I'll be picking up tomorrow. Picks to follow I suppose.

I feel a little like I'm chickening out. But it means I spend less time in engine grease and more time in the dirt. So thanks for all the advice. I really did put it all to use in making what was not an easy decision.
