Why do you folks with jeeps and landrovers, 4 runners etc think you need to have some sort of specific vehicle group inside a all inclusive vehicle club? If your looking for specific information on your rig you would be better off at a forum specific to your vehicle example, ih8mud for the rovers.

Im in no way hating on your vehicle just your choice to surround yourself with the same thing youve already got. Thats boring. I understand you want to see what others have done to rides and get ideas and stuff, pro tip use the search engine you will find em all and you wont flood the forums with annoying owner registries.

Is this about the "registry" thread for the different vehicles? That's kind of a "show and tell" for vehicles. Folks can see things and share tips and tricks but I don't think any of them are malicious or cause folks to group together and exclude others.

It's neat to see what's done to vehicles similar to yours and many folks don't participate in other forums (I'm active on several other forums myself).

You do realize there is a general forum for "non members" and a general forum for "members only".

I do not mind vehicle specific topics in an online discussion. It makes learning about similar rigs easier. Forum search engines are notoriously weak when you simply want to browse random ideas.

I believe vehicle specific clubs are absurd. With the rise of the 'overland' label, groups and clubs have formed that are breaking down vehicle specific barriers. Now the guy with a built GM truck has a similar platform to discover like minded folks like the VW Vanagon guy. However, the GM guy probably wont seek advice from the VW guy about aftermarket tierods for his truck.

I always carry a spare alternator, starter, and battery. And the tools to change them. If I have a slide in camper and can't carry that battery in my bed anymore, then the campers battery becomes my spare battery.

Jeeps can't do that. They just can't carry the weight. If your girlfriend has eaten at Starbucks or Panera Bread, EVER, then your Jeep likely has only 25 pounds available of it's GVWR left. So it's handy to hang out with other Jeeps. One has an alt, the other has a starter, and so forth. A shared pool of parts and tools instead of every truck being dangerously overloaded.

There's also ''fullsize friendly'' trips, ''newb friendly, stock 2wd, and fullsize freindly group'' trips, and Jeep trips. Being the only guy with an H2 on a Jeep trip, isn't going to be as much fun as it would be if we joined a ''fullsize friendly'' group ride, or an H2 sweater vest club. It makes sense to band together a bit.

The mods recently added a fullsize forum. Ask them to make a ''broken tie rod on the trail again'' forum for the GM, H2, H3, Tahoe guys. lol.

I like to see how others have tackled issues or problems that I am having or how I might do something better. If I hang out with X, Y and Z, I have little to compare to. More importantly, I don't hang out. I'm not a people person. I'm here fo the free beer.

I'm one of just a couple Pajero owners on this forum, and in a country with about 10 total members, of which I seem to be the most active, so I can sympathise with the point you're trying to make with your frustration.

However, as inclusive as we like to be, people enjoy their cliques and will self-segregate based on commonality on occasion. As others have mentioned, it's sort of a ''show and tell'' for people with similar vehicles to discuss amongst themselves. It's not a walled garden that no one without a Jeep (for example) can enter.

You gotta relax!

I keep hearing people mention carrying starters and alternators with them. I have never had issues with these that has made me feel the need to carry them. Don't get me wrong I really don't carry any spare parts, and I probably should because last summer I blew up a lot of parts but I was always able to drive it back home after, just not as comfortably as before which isn't that comfortable to begin with.... My buddy used to have a Ranger that we had to touch a live power wire to the starter to get it to start, then pull it off quick because the starter would keep trying to spin and fight the motor and I still don't carry these parts, and I don't know anyone who does. besides that's like $800 in spare parts ( if ou carry new), I am happy to carry ratchet strap, duct tap, zip ties and a tire plug kit... but its a jeep and I cant fit much and that's already been mentioned LOL.

While I don't carry a spare alternator or starter, I do have a spare set of brushes for the starter and know that replacing those is a pretty simple task I could perform on the trail if need be. And I carry a handful of sensors (CPS being the most important), distributor cap/rotor, U-joints and a bunch of tools, including some that are needed for specific Jeep repairs.

There is also a lot of value in the knowledge base that accompanies a group with similar vehicles. When it is time to replace that alternator that Jeep so brilliantly mounted at the bottom of the engne it helps to have folks on hand who know what needs to be removed for access such that the job can be done quickly.

Add up the group's spare parts and knowledge base and you end up with a half decent pit crew, much better than any one of us could independently afford to have on hand.

Many people aren’t like us. They don’t understand the inns and outs of how a vehicle function, so they don’t understand that the ignition switch is in needed, or the fact that a broken axle isn’t a life stopping event.

I enjoy being a member in model inclusive groups because I feel like I can save some of the newer folks some time and money with their projects. Albeit I was never a member of any Mustang groups or Jeep groups when I owned them. Odd.
