I agree, when we started looking last summer, that was my goal. To get something that I could pull behind the jeep. Once my wife got involved, we ended up with a TT that we need to pull with the other SUV. Gotta keep mama happy...

I agree, easy just to be out and have fun. This is my baby, I didn't buy it to see how much damage I can do to it... DD too.

The whole park should be considered Badge of Honor trails. At least that's how it has been set up in the past. So you can go hard, or take it easy.

Ok, I thought it was one specific trail. We will go, have fun, and if we're not comfortable with a trail, we'll find another path. It'll be nice to just get out and get away for a couple days. I'm buying some new camping gear. Maybe those of us around Iowa can try to get together for a weekend before we head to Indiana.

Has anyone been to the Badlands in Attica? How does that compare to Redbird? It's looks to be a bit smaller at 800 acres but just curious?

It's about an hour closer. No badge trails, but looks like fun. I'm not really hung up on the badges. Just looking to get out and have some fun. Any thoughts from people about Badlands?

Not sure why it doesn't show up in a search, but here is a report from last November when Jordon, Cody and I met up at Badlands ...

The badge thing is a joke. I just don't get it.
You guys may be better at Badlands or likely Interlake for what it sounds like you want. I would say Redbird has a higher damage potential than Badlands after a few trips to both. I saw this within 5 minutes of getting on trail at Redbird my 1st time.
Redbird is more offroad trails and actual wheeling IMO. Badlands mixes both and has sand dunes to play on if you like that stuff. Has a rock quarry with walls and stuff to climb n play on. Some rock gardens and lots of hills and trails. I would take people to Badlands as beginners before Redbird.
Interlake is said to be even more stock friendly and lots of picture ops. I am thinking it is May that we are going to check it out and do some camping.

I've been all over the country in my jeeps and most of the time when you see a vehicle on its side, it's because the person was being careless or just stupid. and it doesn't matter the level of the trail. Rausch Creek for example is rated to have some of the toughest trails. If you are smart and don't do trails that are over your experience or rig capability, you will do fine. No damage at all. Agreed. Most rolls are due to stupidity or a few times it is a good driver really pushing their rig a bit too hard.
You also need to know which place will have the most trails for what is desired and that is what I am trying to convey through my experiences on the places in question.

Thanks for the map Steve. Looks like I would stick to the beginner. The Tahoe has never really been off road and she has about 270k miles. I have a plan for her but we'll save that for another thread.

Also, the Badlands has onsite camping. Once we get everything set in stone i'll post it up on Indiana Overlanders Facebook page.
OK straight from the source. There are trails there that are fine and meant for stock vehicles. Two things impact this, the first is weather, if it is wet and muddy easy becomes harder. The second is driver ability, I was told the trails are setup to be technical trails and there are some tight turns and stuff that novice drivers would just need to take there time and maneuver properly and they should be fine.
With the many different rigs that are going we should be able to put together a line up that would allow us to let people know what to expect and give advice and help to the drivers if needed.
