Quick trip south

Im heading south to Ashland Oregon for 2 nights then going to dip down into California on Rt 199 to the 101 then back north home along the coast. Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay and explore? thanks a lot.

199 looks like it goes through some cool territory!

I don't know if this is too far out of your way or not but Fern Canyon is a great spot I've been meaning to get to (see red marker on attached map):
