That is the only downside but I'm not using QF's I'm using the smittybilt axe/shovel mount from them but I still love it

Yea, I just purchased the same mount. I hold high hopes for it. I'll be mounting it to the back of my truck bed toolbox with a couple of standoffs so I can mount the shovel curved side out (I carry a Krazy Beaver that thing will bite you the second you take eyes off it)

Haha, nope. This is a thread about Quickfists. Sorry if you felt my posts had anything to do with you personally. There are reasons so many people choose to use them and use them happily. Do you have any idea how many of these things there are out there? Calling them unreliable/unsafe based on your opinion or someone's improper use of them is fine. I consider it baseless so all I'm doing is pointing out that my experience with the product directly contradicts your feelings.
Not opinion. Fact. I've seen them fail with my own eyes, and I'm not sure where you got "improper use" from.
People choose to use them because they are cheap compared to the alternatives.
I don't cheap out when it comes to my rig. Safety and security are paramount. If you want to wrap rubber bands around your gear and call it good, more power to you. Some folks use duct tape, for God's sake. I prefer the peace of mind that comes with knowing my gear is firmly stowed and won't come loose (or even wiggle) until I take it off of there.
Can't get that with QF's. So I don't use them. On a lighter note, I have their entire box of assorted QF's on a shelf, wanna buy them?

I've had my Quick Fists hold my shovel for the past year and a half and have had no issues thus far. I like how they hold and how quick it is to get to the shovel when needed. I did see my shovel sliding a little once but that is because I failed to tighten it well enough.
In the back of your Jeep , a guy on the Wrangler Forum mounted a L bracket to the roof hold down bolts and put the Quick Fists on that. Looks pretty good and it's space you don't use anyway....

I've got quick fists holding my fiskars axe into my Leitner rack. It rides around back there with no issues. That being said, if I'm parking my rig for more than 10 minutes at anywhere but work or home, I pull the quick release fire extinguisher, the first aid kit and the axe, and lock them in the truck to prevent theft. It takes an extra couple minutes to remove everything but if rather spend a few minutes securing those items rather than get them stolen.

I think QF are fine for temporary storage outside the vehicle, as others have mentioned, when I'm not using the gear, I'll remove them from the truck, though I've left my shovel on my rack for over a year now...

My tools are locked to the rack but I still remove them when I get home and they're no longer needed. When I'm on the trail I love that I can easily remove just the tool I want. That's what turned me off of some other options.
That is one of the big downsides to my axe/shovel mount from smittybilt.. it's hard to do by myself like put them both up st the same time and I have to take them off at the same time if I want to use one or the other

Quick Fists were initially a last ditch effort for me - as the set up I was originally looking for was priced out of my price range and to build it myself was even more money! So I settled on QF's and couldn't be happier. I currently use them to hold my Axe in place and they don't budge. That said, colder weather makes them a little stubborn to close - but I get by, because I'm more stubborn than they are! IMO - you won't find something more universal and useful at that price.
