Anyone using Quick Fists to mount their shovel to their Jeep hood? I was thinking that the rubber bumpers would be a good location for the Quick Fists. Any thoughts or ideas?

410 Expedition ("Cappy" Fortin) uses something like that on his Jeep. Look him up on YouTube and in many of his videos he's got the shovel on his hood. Not certain what he's using, though.

I don't use them on my hood but I do use them in my Leitner rack to hold my axe and will be adding more for my shovel soon. I love them.

Despise them. Unreliable on the trail. Didn't happen to me, but one guy in front of me had a shovel off the side of his rack and hit a weird hole and the thing let go and scraped the side of his Jeep. I find them hard to engage in tight spots, and am not a fan of the single mounting hole drilled thru rubber (unstable)

I've gone thru a myriad of mounting options for shovel/axe and landed on this, will bolt this to my bed toolbox if it ever stops raining...

These are all valid points. I haven't had those issues yet but I can see these things being a problem.

I've never had an issue either and I've dragged my tools through branches plenty of times. It's worth mentioning that it's wise to have your tools installed in a fashion that reduces the chance of something catching it. I use my shovel to shield as much of my Pulaski as possible.

It didn't get dragged past a branch. It let go after dynamic load was applied by the wheel beneath it slamming down.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I follow 410 Expeditions on all their social media outlets so I'll shoot Cappy a message. I won't be keeping tools mounted all the time. Just looking for something for short term use to free up some cargo space. Once I get new bumpers I'll be moving tools to the swing out tire carrier (hopefully).

That was my intent to. This set-up is simple to do and you can keep it after and reorganise the panel.

Yes I'm aware. To be honest that situation sounds like the shovel wasn't properly secured. I used the example of branches because my mounts have yet to let a tool go with trees catching and trying to rip them free. The point is that from my experience they're completely reliable on trails and I'd wager most would agree.

So, my minimum bar for security of outside mounted tools and gear is to grab the item that's mounted to the vehicle and attempt to rock the vehicle on its springs. These things failed that test *miserably* If the item moves more than the vehicle, it unsecure. I realize your bar is lower, but in my eyes, unsecured is unsafe.

I'd hate to see what happens to crap secured by those things in a rollover. I've never had a shovel come through my window before...

Literally installed this a week ago and I love it! However it took forever to drill through it to make an extra hole so I could mount it to my roofrack (smittybilt) any idea on how to lock it? I tried a pad lock and didn't have enough room.. same with a gun lock.. sorry not the best picture but upon request I'll take more if anyone wants more

Really?! I've never... had a shovel... come through my window before... either.

My bar is based on real world forces placed on non structural items. Rubber stretches so they work exactly as they were designed. I respect your point of view but in a right condition rollover things are breaking free. Your mount of choice or mine.

Now yer cookin' with gas!

Standard sized padlock? I wondered the same, haven't gotten around to mounting so haven't looked into it closely.

If it's the padlock size, try your local hardware store for a smaller one. They make locks in all sorts of sizes.

This actually brings up another check in the negative column for QF's. Not secure. A good axe/shovel combo is expensive, not something I'd leave unlocked on the outside of my rig.

Quick fix.
