Hi Everyone,

My boyfriend and I just purchased an iKamper (he works for Mainline Overlanding in Pennsylvania) and we have had the HARDEST time trying to find non-campsite places to get off-grid and away. We live in Philadelphia, have a lifted, off-road equip Jeep Gladiator. I'm from the PNW and would love to take him out in the thick to enjoy what it means to be truly AWAY.

~Any suggestions are welcome especially around locations and permits~

@Suz_Murch welcome to the forums. Might have have more eyes on your question in the US East section of the forums

Or in the Overland Trip Planning section.

I do believe there are some great locations in PA I think there is a few threads on here of people spending time camping in PA or surrounding states. Best of luck

@DevilDodge Like that link. In-Laws live in Hagerstown might have to use that map next time we visit. Sneak a short ride and overnight in

@wigsajumper I have scouted Bald Eagle, Rothrock and Moshannon State forests.

Getting ready to hit Buchanan and Tuscarora.

Any questions about those I can answer pretty easily. Any questions about other places I can try to help get info.

Also. Purple Lizard Maps have a food bit of the PA area covered. Their maps show the off pavement travel routes and the dispersed camping sites

Out there it is difficult. We have one national forest that isn’t too big that has real off grid camping in SC. Look for any federal or state land. Federal grasslands, state wildlife management areas, etc. I use onX for that. Most of the time, the rule is you can camp literally anywhere. Pull on the shoulder of the dirt road, legal. In some ways that’s better than out west where it’s starting to get stricter.
