Signed and passed on to multiple folks. We just finished a trip up through Lockhart Basin heading north, where we encountered only one cyclist and three other vehicles in 4 days. ( yes, we took our time and camped 3 nights in a really sweet spot) Once we dropped down to the intersection for chicken corners and headed toward Hurrah Pass I was dismayed by the behavior of folks in SxSs rental or otherwise, and in rental Jeeps headed out to Chicken Corners. It made me sad to see that section of trail turned into a super highway mostly being used by day trippers and weekenders that have nary a clue the damage they are causing, nor do they understand that their behavior is giving plenty of ammo to the organizations that seek to close down these areas. Ignorance is bliss and it also leads to arrogance. Our group of 3 was pulled off to the side, awaiting others to pass. A day tourist in a SxS was throttling up as he went around, I gave the signal to slow down. “ I’m not going fast” was his response. A two by four up side the head may have gotten his attention but the dust kicked up in his wake prevented me from finding one quick enough to do any good. A good first step to keeping public lands open to responsible recreaters would be to ban SxSs. Problem solved.
