I have. I had a Losi and a Traxxas that we would blast all over the place but they got to be more expensive to fix than my real truck...

I started looking at crawler RC's but then sold everything I had. Didn't want to start over.

used to fly quadcopters (from custom fpv racing to phantoms) but that is way too expensive of a hobby for me to really get into. Watching ~$1k fly in the air and praying that a gust of wind, sudden rain, a brave bird, loss of connection to controller/GPS/battery, etc. doesn't completely total your toy is not a fun feeling for me. Or worse, Phantoms will go into a "return home" mode that never actually worked (at least many of the 1st gens didn't). I have seen phantoms land themselves right into bodies of water, tops of trees/buildings. Nothing worse than knowing your phantom is completely fine but it's impossible to safely retrieve it. Luckily there was an emergency manual control mode on top of that failsafe but most people didn't know it at the time.

But flying in a completely foreign place can make the hobby extremely fun. Those custom built quads were most fun since they were so small and could be built sturdier than the phantoms. I was never a fan of flying around the neighborhood or in a local park like so many people do. It's a good way to make enemies with your neighbors. Nowadays I just take pictures and enjoy the scenery. I do want to try out those rc boats that go 50mph on the water...that's really cool.

I did a long time ago. I had an RC Tamiya Fox back in 1985, and ran it around local construction sites in the neighborhood. It probably still works, but I haven't had it out since about 1990. I also have a 60" RC sailboat, and three RC gliders (1, 2, and 3 meter) but haven't flown the two smaller ones in a couple decades, and never finished the larger one. I also had two electric planes, but they didn't survive some rough landings. All of the planes were balsa stick built on jigs, and covered with Monocoat, so impacts did bad things to them, unlike the later foam planes.
