I had my bumper dipped for 2 years and it held up very well.
I'm impressed by its durability. I dipped the wheels on my Outback shortly after I bought it. They looked the same after a couple salt belt winters and 31k when the RPF1's went on. Proper coating thickness and number of coats make a big difference.

Two MN winters on my wheels. Unless I have had a flat repair, it has held up fine. Going on my 3rd winter with no plans to peel and respray.

I have had on my bumpers for two years and it probably needs to be redone, however I am very happy with it. It lasted much loanger than I thought it would.

Was every one doing this themselves? I've been reading up on this stuff, but haven't tried it yet. How much prepping are you all doing prior?

Clean and dry with favorable temp/humidity was all I was worried about.

Do you think it sticks better than regular paint? I've painted plenty of parts, but without a good bit of prepping the pealing starts after a month.
Based on my experience I'd say yes since its still sticking to my chrome window trim and grille surround and all I did was wash it with fancy car wash soap. I do have some chips in the grille but I know paint would have taken much more damage after a couple years of highway travel.

Watch a couple of youtube videos and follow the instructions, its pretty simple. The only thing I found is does not come off as easy as in the videos, it does come off just not as easy a they make it look.

It's all about that first coat and then how many coats you spray. The thicker the better.

yup. for my grille and tailgate emblems I pretty much just wiped them off with my t shirt and sprayed. 2 years later and many car washes, still looks good.

99% of the bad comments you hear are from folks who don't understand the prep is not like paint and it's ability to be peeled off is a benefit. Anytime I have a flat tire fixed and they have to pull the tire off the wheel the edge gets peeled up a tad. I simply go home, peel off those areas, wipe the wheel off and respray. good as new.

Like Wawa says - the first coat needs to be even and thin. Don't worry about complete coverage, you want some of the original finish peeking through that first coat. Allow it to dry, and then repeat. Lots of thin coats to build up to a thick covering. I have used it with great success on wheels, bumpers etc.

It is very durable, washable etc. I have only used the black rattle can version, but you can get custom mix kits for almost any color.

Good luck with it!

Think id have to disagree the first coat should be even all be it a thin one. As with any coating . You dont want differing thicknesses

I did the wheels on the Mrs. car a few years ago. The first two times I watched a few youtube videos, cleaned things up really well and applied multiple thin coats for a thick finish. They fairly quickly got road debris nicks and some peeling. I was not impressed. I talked to the guys at dipyourcar.com, and they suggested a VERY thin even first coat. Thin enough to allow some of the original finish to be barely visible. I did this, and followed the remainder of process the same as the first two times. The coating has been on for almost two years now, and shows almost no signs of wear.
