Plano Cases

I'm thinking of getting a gun case and taking the foam out and using that for recovery gear storage. I really don't like much on my roof. Has anyone tried something like this?

I've seen plenty of pics of pelican cases for recovery gear. Seems like an expensive case for recovery gear tho. I rather put my guns in my pelican case then recovery gear. I'm fine with my small tool bag loaded with recovery gear. I'm able to squeeze a snatch block, tow strap, snatch strap, 6 drings, gloves and a winch line bag weight thing. Tight fit but it works and it's small and in one bag. Heavy as rocks but it works for me.
