Photography

Hey! Been a member for a little while and just realized there is a photography section.... I've been using photography to pay for the camera gear for a few years, mostly real estate photos some events but I never seem to have my camera ready when I'm out in the wilderness I need to get on that. I'll share a few of what I do have. Maybe get motivated to shoot more.
Especially like the shot of the lightning! What's your camera/landscape lens of choice?

I used a Canon 5dmk3 for those with a Tamron 24-70 f2.5

Just got back from a 2,000+ road trip, which didn't go as well as hoped. I ended up catching a stomach bug on the last day of the trip. We trailered the motorcycle with us for this one so we could enjoy the warmer weather of South Florida. I did have my Moment anamorphic lens with me but I didn't use it too much. We were too busy for me to take as many photos as I would have liked. We met up with lot of friends and went to a surprise birthday for a family member. It was mostly enjoyable but having the stomach bug on the last day and the drive back home made the drive back horrendously long. Normally it is a 14 hour drive. Having become ill made the trip just over 20 hours. Yay.

Loaded up and ready to go...

She's not as young as she used to be. Chloe slept a lot during the trip.

Not all rest areas have somewhere for vehicles with trailers to park...

Towing a 1,500 pound parachute does have a negative impact on your fuel efficiency.

But we did get to enjoy a lot of riding on this trip.

The moment anamorphic is awesome for video work. I am getting either that or the the shiftlens versions. Depending on if shiftlens has a mount for our P8Ps. If they don't, Moment it is, which is fine by us. They are a great company to do business with.

I thought it would be cool to have thread where we could discuss photography, camera gear, and maybe share some samples of our work. I'm totally an amateur, but I love learning more about this hobby so feel free to critique any of my "work".

So, to start things off;

What camera are you using?

Mine is a Nikon D5000

I'll post some pictures later...

Nikon D810

If I know I'm going somewhere worth the effort, I will pack my Canon 60D. And if I know that it will really be special, I'll pack my Minolta SRT-202. My parents purchased the Minolta new back in 1976 and I remember the day they brought it home. To me that camera was incredible. Every trip we took that camera was with us. Fast forward 20 years and I brought it with me to college and managed to find time for one outing to bring it along.

Now, I am sparing on how often I break it out. Film and processing can be pricey. And it is getting really difficult to find the right battery for the light meter in the camera. It take a 1.3 volt battery. A 1.5 volt will work but you have to remember that the internal light meter will be reading about1.5 stops too much.

One nice thing about having such an old camera is you can find glass for it at low prices. Usually. Sometimes you will find a really great lens but the price is ridiculously high.

Every time I leave the camera behind, I miss something spectacular. Last spring I went on a hike with a threat of rain, so I opted to not carry it (it never rained, dang it!). A loud sound prompted me to look up and I watched in awe as a rat snake devoured two young flying squirrels over the course of 30 minutes. The mother squirrel ran up and down the tree shrieking loudly; she finally gave up and glided away in defeat. How I berated myself for not bringing my camera and wildlife lens!
I carry a Canon R5MII, 100-500mm lens for critters and a 24-105mm lens for scenery. Add in food, water, emergency/safety gear, + clothing and my pack easily exceeds 15 lbs. I carried this on every day hike last summer except for Mt. Whitney. Dedication, or maybe just insanity?
