Just wondering who out there also has the GM 6.5TD in their rig? Mine happens to be in a 1996 Hummer wagon. I love this rig. It's my daily driver, offroader, and overland rig all in one. Just wondering what tips & tricks others may have learned while living with this engine offroad for extended periods. Of course the spares like oil/fuel filters are good to have in the spare parts bin. What do you carry or modifications have you made?
I suggest, if you haven't already, relocating your Fuel Solenoid Driver (also sometimes known as the Pump Mounted Driver) which is a little black box containing a couple resistors that is mounted onto the side of the injection pump. Relocating this to a cooler location will help extend its life and prevent you from becoming stranded when your injection pump no longer delivers fuel into the engine because this thing has died. No need to go to the pain of removing your current one from the injection pump. Just buy a new one and an extension and mount it someplace as far as you can place it from engine heat.
Cheers,
