Cool....

Read something similar about a guy who went around the world in a Mercedes back in either the late '70s or early '80s. The Mercedes was recently found, complete with the expedition gear, behind some gas station! They guy who bought it has decided to leave it as found other than cleaning it up a bit. He won an award with it at Overland Expo IIRC.

It's not the G-Wagon you can find on the net.

I've been car camping long before we called it overland, and we did it with a 1/3 of the gear we have now. It's fun to collect gear and build rigs, however. I consider that part of it straight up a hobby. The camping can be done without all the stuff, and it's still just a fun.

I respect the guy who's got 30K extra bolted on to the truck, and also the grandma who's rocking it old school. I'm just glad people enjoy doing this so I can talk about it with them, because in the end, we think, buy, and obsess about this a whole lot more than we actually do it. If it weren't for day jobs ..... :)

This woman had to be five feet of concrete to undertake this journey. I am amazed and in awe.

I have a great aunt who would've done the same thing - she's gotta be damn near 80 now and she'll get in her car and drive across the country on a whim.
