My wife & I are planing our first major foray next year. We would like to head out to the continental divid in late May (27) to Selida,Co, then cut across the Rockies heading east back to Vermont.

We would love some imput on where and how to go about this?? Also, is there a region leader near Vermont I could meet up with?

I'm in the process of kitting out my Jeep JKU these next few months ( I'll be posting up in the Build Section ) and doing some trial runs this Spring through Autumn.

I'm looking forward to collaborating with OB members' and making new friends in the process!!

Much Love,

Carlo

I'm out of NH and will say that anytime I head easterly now I go through Canada. Much nicer run! You actually cross in NY (about 5 mins in NY) and cross back in Sault Ste Marie. This runs you through the Michigan UP. My next run over (Mid-May) I'll explore a route through Hiawatha NF (about 260 miles of dirt road) as I head west. Still researching this leg of the trip and looks like you go through Hiawatha East / Superior State Forest / Hiawatha West.

Just a thought as you travel to Colorado.

Salida, Co was my old stomping grounds. You don’t mention any other Colorado towns, so I am assuming you are coming from Nebraska and dropping down into Colorado Springs. From Colorado Springs take Cheyenne Mountain Road (old gold camp road) to Cripple Creek, Colorado. From there you have several choices to get to Salida. The easiest is taking Phantom Canyon Road into Canon City, then take HWY 50 out of Canon City to Salida.

From Salida, are you going over Monarch Pass to Grand Junction Colorado, to Moab Utah, then heading East, or are you spinning around and Head back through Montrose and Alomosa Colorado and then to Santa Fe, NM.

Hard to give good advice when the trip is so vague.

Thanks for replying to my post!

We ere also considering Quebec through to Canadian Atlantic Coast then homeward through Maine.

I'm researching both areas, so far Glacier National Park starting point of the Continental Divide looks promising.

We would take the Divide until Salida,Co, hang out there for a day or two, then head east through the Rockies, then on the TAT.

We also like the idea of a Quebec venture as well, we've got over a year to decide west or north!

This is all new to us, I've been off-roading since 1987, only regional, Northern New England.
Never out west, so I feel it's important to seek out advice on how to prepare for such a venture.
