There is a little preamble here so please indulge me, then we'll get down to business.

The largest responsibility with Overland Bound has is to support the OLB community and do everything we can so OLB realizes its maximum potential. We really have something special here. You've created it!

To that end, we pour our resources and limited bandwidth toward supporting the needs of the community. Regional member groups and meetups have been a huge demand from the community over the last few months, and we have been working to support that in many ways. Members want to visit, explore, learn, and have fun with other local members.

Earlier this year @fj80toyman planned a fantastic trip to the Mojave Road, and trips and meetups have continued to snowball. Through that process, we learned a lot about the requirements of planning a trip of that type, and we have seen other local coffee get togethers and meetups and felt the community needs a simple tool for creating an event or trip, provide all essential details, and easily share that information not only here, but wherever they want. That tool is almost ready, and we need your help!

Many thanks to Benefactors, Members, and Supporters who have funded the development of this tool and made it free for all Members to use.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO HELP BELOW!

Introducing Overland Rally Point
In a nutshell, this is Facebook Events, but for Overlanders. Overlanders have specific requirements, and need a special event creation tool. The features are specific for folks planning overland events or trips, on or off the grid. We will continue to develop ORP as the community uses it, and provides feedback.

Once the details are filled in, ORP publishes a trip announcement Page you can share via e-mail, facebook, or any other social media, and automatically creates a forum thread in the Meetups section of the forums to track the conversation.

Current Features:
  1. Event Feature Image Upload
  2. Trip Description - for trip highlights.
  3. Trip Details - Formatted text for the nitty gritty details and bullet lists!
  4. 3 Meter Accuracy Rally Point Start Location - with pin-draggable adjustment for exact start point.
  5. Start Point GPS Coordinates calculated and displayed.
  6. Optional End Location
  7. Rally Point Basic Details:
    1. Start Date
    2. End Date
    3. Required Equipment
    4. Rigs Allowed (for responsible land use)
    5. Terrain type
    6. Difficulty
    7. Distance - In miles or kilometers because we are global!
    8. Tags - For forum searches
  8. Upload KML, GPX, and PDF files for people to download to provide details maps, or other regional event information.
  9. Lock RSVP limit
  10. Make Event Public or Private - Private Events will not be published on the forums
  11. Generate Invites - Automatically create a list of invites to everyone within a 50 mile radius of the start location (use sparingly).
  12. Invite forum members using the "@" plus forum name.
  13. Publish and share announcement page.
  14. Comments may be made on either the announcement page or forums and will appear on both
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Before we go live, we need to test the software! You will find bugs, and you will want features! This is v.9 and we will be fixing and adding to ORP over time. Here is what to do:
  1. Go to Overland Rally Point here: Overland Rally Point
  2. Fill in Title - Use "Test Trip - Ignore" in the title
  3. DO NOT generate invites - this will actually send invites. Testing with up to 5 friends is OK to test invite functionality
  4. Fill in Rally Point details (you must be a logged in Member to do this)
  5. Publish your event or trip
  6. Review the announcement page
  7. Make a comment on the announcement page
You can review the forum thread that was automatically created under "Support" in the forums in the test thread here: Test Rally Point Forum Threads

The important part:
  1. Add bugs here using, "BUG: [bug details and reproduction steps]
  2. Add features here using, "FEATURE: [feature request details]
As always, thank you for the support and we hope you find Overland Rally Point useful!

More soon!

Looking good still had issues with uploading the image...
"Test Trip - Ignore - Somewhere wild and scary"

BUG: Uploading background image didn't work
Capture1.GIF Capture2.GIF
Feature: Dates can be set in the past and end date before start date. Can the date validation be done within the form rather than when hitting publish?
Feature: Being able to select more that one type of terrain.
Feature: Somewhere to add expected weather or link to weather service to show what the weather will be like nearer the time.
Tests done on Windows 10 using Chrome Browser.

Sorry to give the standard answer but, clear cache? The developer completely re-wrote the image uploader - I just want to be sure it is actually not working for you.

Feature: Terrain - Understood and agreed.
Feature: Weather: good point - I'd add it to details now.
Thank you for testing! It really helps!

Test Trip – Ignore – Back in the moors again

OK, cleared the cache and image upload worked OK Capture5.GIF

[BUG - You seem to be able to enter negative distances... using the down arrow.]

[Feature - how do I edit my post once created?]
[Feature - I mentioned this one before but you said the post got deleted. Can we use another term other that pavement? It's a bit frowned upon to drive on the pavement over here ;-) Maybe something more generic like 'on road' or 'highway'?]

Cheers.

Great!

Feature - Edit Post - on the list! You can preview before creating, and once you create, there is a link to edit the post on the confirmation page. That is not sufficient however, and we are working on this.
Feature - "Pavement" changed!

Thank you!

Think there is a little bug in the coding,
First image shows the HTML coding for the alignment - but the next image lower down doesn't.. bit odd,

Another coding bit is during the post creation
in the notes section - each component coding is working, however when you click on "quote" it puts the writing in the middle but doesn't show it as a quote (while typing) but once its generated under preview or create post, it changes the font to quote - so slight visual one there,

Not sure how you feel about adding another road type as "Mixed" as not all paths would be dirt / highway but then again it can be mentioned in the description / further notes what the roadway conditions are likely to be (one would think)

oh one more -
Under the notes where the image is, there is no way to add "image from File" rather than just web URL source (for those who don't host their own services and cant upload a web based image)

:grinning:

Is there a proper way to use this to create local member meetups? Per the fields available this seems to only be geared towards trips. Would be cool to use the automatic @ mention radius feature to alert people in the area of a member meetup.

BUG: Generate Invites List Incomplete
The list I get from the generate invites feature does not seem to be complete. I did a test for 50 mile radius of Boise, ID and it only populated 13 members. When I look at the member map there are more members in the area then that.
