Hi folks, My wife and I finally got out to the Ochoco NF last weekend with the boys (our two labs). We had a great time and are planning a 10 day mini tour of Ochoco/Malheur/Umatilla NF in Sept. We prefer dispersed camping in the backwoods and forest service type roads (unpaved, that is). We’re set up for multiple days of remote camping. We’d welcome any feedback or route recommendations and would also welcome like-minded company along the way. Cheers everybody and stay safe.

Man, I haven't been to Oregon in decades. Is Tumalo still there?
Yes, I drove through it yesterday. It's kinda become one of those little touristy way stops. Tumalo Feed Company has really good food if you want a nice dinner.

A few Central Oregon points of interest to consider:
Steens Pillar
Crack in the Ground
Christmas Valley Dunes
Fort Rock
Alvord Desert

Where at in the Umatilla NF are you wanting to venture into?
Thanks for the reply. We’re honestly not sure yet. It’ll likely come down to what makes the most sense from a routing standpoint. We are expecting to grab a nice spot in each location for 2-3 days to check out the area (we can leave the trailer during the days if we choose) and a days drive in between to the next NF. Hoping I can piece together a general route on this basis, still always maintaining some flexibility if we find an extra special spot.
