Hey all!

I need your input! We have developed a trophy system in these forums to encourage people to help others, demonstrate our founding principles, and outfit and explore.

Early trophies are awarded automatically by completing goals in the forums like posting, receiving likes, posting articles in specific forums. Higher level trophies are completed outside the forums and require validation. I need your suggestions for trophies! The should fall into three main categories:

  1. Adventurer - these are travel, distance, or trip related. Examples might be completing a 1500 mile trip, or navigating 3 countries.
  2. Innovator - for thinking outside the box, making overlanding easier with a DIY project, inventing overland gear or offering tips or how-tos
  3. Challenger - for successfully navigating the obstacles overlanding presents. Winch recovery, water crossing,
So, in these categories, what trophies should we have from easy to hard?

Please use this format:

Category : Trophy : Discription

For example: Challenger : Winchless Recovery : Recover your stuck vehicle without using a winch.

Here is a link to a spreadsheet where you can add your suggestions if you are inclined!

Trophy Suggestions

Go!

Adventurer: trail runner: complete 5 trail runs with atleast 5 forum members.
That might be fine when there are a bunch of you in an area. But in this part of the country, there aren't five members in half the surrounding states, let alone getting them together for just one ride. That's probably the case for any member east of the Rockies. Goals have to be achievable by all members, not just those in certain areas.

The same goes with specific drives (Rubicon, et al) that take vehicles that are modified well beyond stock. Overland Bound's founding tenant is "It doesn't matter what you drive"

Just my 2 cents.

Stock jk rubicons can go through rubicon I'm just saying :) but I see q hat your saying and these trophy should NOT BE obtainable by all cause that would defeat the purpose if everyone had them. May as well be the same as now where nobody has any.
That's just me .02

Yea that might be a problem now but as the community grows hopefully this will become easier.

What if, when someone joins the forums, or becomes a member, you have a "How did you hear about us" field in the signup form. Then you could award points/trophies for how many members we've referred.

We should have "business cards" with the OB logo, web address, and our Forum Name/Member Number, to give out to people we meet who have Overland'ish vehicles, or show interest in what we do.

Do you have to be offroad the entire time. I drove my model A from Ca to Idaho to Yellowstone to on a dirt road to get to Mt . Rushmore to Crazy Horse to Columbus, OH the to Michigan to NC to AR to TX to NM to AZ to NV to CA
No, not at all! OB is not an "off road club" though we certainly enjoy those destinations. Driving across country counts just as much as the Rubicon.

What about hosting a fellow member who is passing thru. Would that be adventurer like a two for one deal. You get something for hosting someone and they get something for being a guest on the road.
Awesome! That seems like Ambassador track, and is great.

@Steve @timberwolf_120 Since OB is really world wide , trail specific trophys will exclude a bunch of folks in the forums. Though we are CA based, we don't want to build things into the forum Trophys that emphasizes one region over the other. I think the fringe benefits of that fact are enough (we get to see each other)! The "Challenge" track is specifically for the more adventurous, or accidentally adventurous :) I'd like to take the challenges the Rubicon presents, and make them applicable to any location. "Cross-axel two boot transition" for that time you were fully articulated, and tipped, two tires off the ground, from your passenger rear to your driver front. This way it can happen anywhere. Not that we won't have OB trail badges somewhere. That might be cool.

What do you think?
