What's Overlanding without something going wrong? Lol.
A buddy and I went and did a little Overlanding… camping back into the deep bush with the quads. This area is just SE of Rushing River Ontario. Just drop me a line if you want more details on the location.
It’s a 2.5 hr drive to where the pavement ends, 20 minutes or so on gravel, then another 2 hrs through a bush trail. It gets pretty tight on the last hour through the bush… I’m looking forward to my limb risers. My a-pillars take quite a beating there.
Once we hit the rougher part of the trail on the way in I was hearing a pretty bad banging sound over the bumps coming from my trailer. A little investigation showed that one of my leaf springs had bent and then broken. The trailer company that I had put a beefier axle on put the old light leaf springs back on! I was not impressed. Luckily we weren’t too far in through the rough stuff so I decided to turn back and head to the nearest town. After much calling around and gingerly driving around we managed to find the very last leaf spring in town! But we could not find anyone with an extra 30 minutes of shop time to spare to swap it out for us. So off to Canadian Tire to buy some tools and we swapped it out in the parking lot. My hilift was invaluable. I’m sure glad I remembered to grab it!
Steak over an open fire is awesome! Prior to heading out there I repackaged my steaks with our vacuum sealer. This gave me some peace of mind that the ARB fridge would not get all bloody. So around lunch time I took the steak out and let it warm up to room temperature before cooking it. This made it very easy to grill it to a medium-rare.
My chainsaw (MS170 Stihl) worked great. I had issues with it bogging down last year and stupidly didn’t check the air filter. I’ve since replaced it and now keep a spare handy. We did some trail maintenance and it worked flawlessly.
