A great part of military life is being posted places you wouldn't normally choose to live. So, Me the wife and a buddy decided to make the best of it and do a bit of a road trip/expedition for the long weekend. 4.5 days/200o km in the vehicle, 28 km by foot(on purpose).
Did some roadside lake camping on the way up.
Pretty much the entire drive up Highway 6
Stopped in at Pisew Falls Provincial Park
Yes, that's ice...
Then went old school overland and hiked in to Kwasitchewan falls for an overnight in the woods. Don't believe the park literature about 22km round trip, GPS tracked about 28km total.
From the Falls, headed north into Thompson, had lunch, then overnighted in Paint Lake Provincial park to take advantage of showers and running water after backpacking.... only to find the water system was out of commission. Oh well, another night of baby wipe showers.
Heading back the way we came, and then west, stopped in for gas and coffee at Ponton Junction(sounded like a location for a Star Wars scene)
Saw this guy on the side of the road...
Decisions... but who hasn't wanted to go to Flin FLon?
Was a hot day, so stopped at a road side lake to let the beast out for a swim.
Headed south down Highway 10, ending up at Bell Lake for some camping
Finally found some hills near Asessippi...stopped in at Lake of the Prairies, then home.
All in all, a great trip, found some places worth going back to, and a few I can check off my list.
