Not off road or 2 way comm related but radio related and kind of intriguing.

Have you ever heard of a number station before? No one knows exactly what they are (except those sending/receiving the messages) but the biggest theory it to communictate messages to spies.
There aren't as many around today as there were some decades ago but there are still some in operation.

The numbers stations are an old school Cold War era way of communicating with your spies over seas. The Chinese, Cubans and a few others still use it because its very effective. If you’re caught with an AM/FM radio it’s not necessarily evidence of wrong doing.
