Hello all,

New member, first time posting. I joined because I'm looking for advice, recommendation for a trip I'm planning to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and want to make sure I'm prepared as I can be to enjoy my time, not travel a far distance to be turned away for something dumb I didn't prepare for, and most importantly, make it out.

I'm leaving Vancouver, Canada on May 12 and planning to take 3 days to make it down stopping at Bonneville on the way and grabbing final supplies in St. George UT. I'm hoping to do dispersed camping at areas like Whitmore Point, Toroweap Point with my girlfriend and two dogs (photo for karma) before moving east to areas like Kaibab Plateau, Marble Canyon, Lee's Ferry, and doing some of southeast UT before heading home. I have about a week so any specific location recommendations would be appreciated as well.

I'm driving a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 and have a GoFastCamper for sleeping in. Recently joined the local 4WD Association to see what else I can pick up from locals in the next 5 months. I've had it for about a year and have done about 10 multiple day camping trips in it last year and have a good idea of how to live out of it. For tires I have Falken Wildpeak AT3W 265 265/60R18 XL (30.5"). The Ranger has a stock ground clearance of 8.9". I plan on putting new leafs and bump stops in before the trip. When I watch videos of these areas nothing looks too technical or more than I handle regularly in the PNW, but of course a 20-30 min video doesn't cover everything. Is this something my truck should be able to handle?

I have entered the lottery for May's backcountry permit and will purchase an Annual American the Beautiful Pass. I also plan on carrying an extra 5gal jerry can, inreach satellite communicator, full size spare, tire plug kit, compressor, tool kit to tighten suspension/lugnuts/anything else.

Is there anything I'm missing permitting, or supplies wise? Any specific hard-copy map books I could buy?

Hello Matt, welcome to Overland Bound.
Sometimes the North rim does not open until later than May, you should check that out. Here is a link to a nice view point.
https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/kaibab/recarea/?recid=83091
And an Alltrails.com link.
It is beautiful be sure to take a camera and not just your phone. :)
You might also consider this: Antelope Canyon - Book Upper / Lower Combo Package Tours
One of the most beautiful places in Az you can visit.
Also look up Horseshoe bend, it’s iconic.
