I had a blast.

We didn't do too much. I showed @ 7 AM sharp and folks were just rousing 'round the campfire. Introductions were made, the dogs figured out who's who, and Mitch served me a small but wholly satisfying breakfast. Then the plans were made. As Mitch's club buddies are focused on wheeling and crawling, we headed for the creek bed. I'm terrible at documenting wheeling trips, so not much in the way of pics. I did hand off my phone to Nate (who promptly handed it to Mitch's SO, Lynette) and they caught this clip of myself getting high-centered:

Actually what's more interesting than the action is the commentary :-)

Anyway, Mitch's property is gorgeous, 7k acres of prime central Cali farmland. Trails everywhere. Pristine views. I didn't see any but he said he has a couple of historical Native American sites on the property.

The.
Views.
Are.
Stunning.

There's lots of opportunity for rigs of all shapes and sizes. Baz's Audi would rip thru some of the forest road type trails, rally style :-)

I have a few ideas, I'll be calling @mitchandbuck later this week to bounce them off him. This should be, IMO, a quarterly weekend meetup. Not every month, as he shouldn't have to try and arrange a bunch of different schedules every month...

Anyway, I'll throw some ideas at him! Thanks again for having me Mitch!
It was fun. Love using the property for fun.

I can't stop watching the clip I put up. Not because of wheeling expertise (that much is evident) but because it really embodies what OB has done for me.

Last year, around this time, my marriage was on the rocks. Desperate, slightly, for companionship of any kind. I turned to the internet. I found solace in two places, the first being ClubFrontier, whose members had an established NorCal wheeling group and they (mostly) welcomed me with open arms.

The other is here at Overland Bound, and they were slightly different. Unestablished, just finding their way, members slung all over God's creation. I clicked with a few of them and by April of this year was able to make a few runs with a couple of different groups. All in the name of making new friends, companionship and shared passions, newfound hobbies and learning experiences.

Anyway, this past weekend just reminded me of all that with a group that, once again, welcomed me with open arms and treated as one of their own.

I'm quite sure @mitchandbuck won't mind the mention of his club, they are some 50 years established here in the Bay Area. The members of Diablo 4 Wheelers showed me a great time, and I look forward to going back soon. I can't theoretically join, as I could never make it to Tuesday night meetings in Concord, but I sure hope to hang out with these guys again.

That's pretty sweet Scott. I have a very familiar beginning to four wheeling. Check out our website and let me know if you would like to join a run. I'll put you in touch with jeep master of that run. Next big one is Winterfunfest in January. It is a Cal4 event and registration is open. We did the historic tour at Sierratrek last August and JIM, our guide was amazing. He will be leading the historic tour at WFF and it is very much an overlander type rig run.
I highly recommend this. Our club, Diablo 4 Wheelers, will be serving breakfast on Sunday morning like we have for the past several decades. Hope to see some of you folks there.

@mitchandbuck I attended Cars and Coffee at the Black Diamond Cafe today in Emeryville. It was organized by Expedition Portal I believe and seems it will be held every 2 months or so. Met OB 8888, 1234 and 2060 at this event. Met a bunch of other offroad and overland drivers and their rigs. Had an awesome time

Damn, didn't see this thread until now but I was at the last Black Diamond meet. I'm on the road for a while but I'd love to get in a day of wheeling with other locals the next time it happens.

First post on this forum. I found out about the meet on expeditionportal.com of which I'm a member with the same forum name. I attended the Dec. 4th meet hosted by Dave at his coffee shop Black Diamond Cafe. I think I had one of the few full sized rigs, a 2003 Suburban with a snorkel. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long as I had some out of town guests to go do the tourist thing up in Napa. Big thanks to Dave for hosting us. I was able to meet Pete and his very cool 4 Runner with the diesel swap, Ryan and his new to him Land Cruiser with the RRT, Mitch and Vay who both had H3's, and Benny and his super cool Land Cruiser with outdoor shower and roof top water tank made of PVC. Some very cool rigs for sure. Will be checking out this place more often.

Hey, what's up Jimil?!? I remember talking to you. I remember the name but can't put a face or rig to it. Which rig were you?

Right on! How's it going!? Glad to see you on the forums.
Going well. Just picked up a 12k winch and a set of Tacoma sliders that I'll need modified to fit. Will try to keep up with this forum as well as expo.

I loved your rig, so much space for a trip! haha
Thanks! Yeah, I can literally bring almost everything and I don't mind as long as the wife and daughter are happy! LOL!
