Hi East Coasters, and especially @Lipek

We are headed east from the Cleveland area on this Thursday (6/30) to take our daughter to summer camp NW of Port Jervis/Matamoras. We are staying Thursday night in Matamoras.

After we drop her of on Friday, we thought we'd so a little exploring in the area. We've been to New Jersey's High point State Park a couple of times, and probably will take a drive through there again. I'd like t see what's at the Delaware Water Gap NRA, and plan on visiting the Dingman's Falls Visitor's Center and Millbrook Village.

It is the July 4th weekend, though, and other than Thursday night, we don't have reservations, and would prefer to avoid holiday revellers.

What else should we do in the area? We're looking for day trips to interesting scenic or historic sites, not shopping and city site seeing.

We'll most likely be back to pick her up July 29, too, unless she finds someone closer to home to ride part way with. So if someone see's this after this weekend, please add your two cents for our return trip.

Thanks,
Steve

Worthington state forest is nice and have trails you can drive on and hike. It lays right on Delaware water gap
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks worthington.html

Bushkill falls is also nice
http://www.visitbushkillfalls.com

Both places will be crowded during 4th of July weekend.

There are people from my local forum FJNE.org going to VT to explore their class IV roads that is your best option IMO as those roads are beautiful and most likely will not be crowded.

I'd love to show you around but I'm "relocating" for work for the summer.
Also if you decide to visit NJ state parks there are dirt trails/roads that show up on google maps please read the signs before entering. NJ ecoNatzis have a firm grip on things and close trails randomly with no warning.

Thanks, I'll look at these tomorrow. I'm afraid I'll run into crowds anywhere we go.

BTW, and related to your signature. I just watch the episode titled "The Door", and it all clicked for me just before the end... :(
