Welcome from to OB. I would go, you can figure out what you need as you roll around. If you want to build a fashion statement go for it. Me, I built, mine for what I do not what I thing I might. I know plenty of folks that have driven the Pan American with stock 4 runners geared out to live in.

Thanks, all. We've owned quite a few 4Runners over the years. Rock solid vehicles, for sure. The very first thing I do after buying one is to replace the headlights with high output, proper length LED bulbs... to make up for the only shortcoming we find: lighting. Well, the other shortcoming is horsepower, since we often tow trailers... just not for overlanding... yet.
We are certainly thinking that a quality RTT is high on the list of next items.
