You have to give them credit, Toyota knows their customer base. According to the article:

Arguably, the highlight of the TRD-Sport is the remote-operated platform that rises from the bed itself. Stationed on this platform is a four-person Yakima tent (yes, you can bed down in this pickup-bed-based trailer) that includes a sizable awning and fly-fishing pole holders. There's also a slide-out kitchen with a sink and stove, water holding tanks, a water heater, a refrigerator, and a toilet.

I’m sure it’s affordable :/

Looks nice though.

Well that sure is interesting and innovative, at least for an OEM. Wonder when Ford/etc. will follow suit with one for the Bronco/etc. Guess it depends on cost and whether you can wrap that into the financing of a new truck. I suspect this won’t be inexpensive!!

Interesting.

I have to wonder what it took for the marketing wonks to get over the stigma of a pickup-bed trailer. Those have never been perceived as a sign of quality, at least not in my neck of the woods. Maybe perception is different in Japan, but I still would expect them to have a better than average focus group. It will be interesting to see if this initiates a turn in perspective on that front. Maybe pickup beds will go up in value.

That’s a good point. With the fridge on the front, it’s not exactly like a truck bed camper. But still, there may be a stigma for something that will probably cost close to $20k.

It's too bad Toyota ran out of good ideas for SEMA. This will never hit the market.
