Hi all,
I'm 25, I've been interested in overlanding since I was a kid. My idea of an adventure is an expedition into the wilderness, not a stay at an expensive resort in a gated tourist trap somewhere. For the past few years overlanding has been in the back of my mind, always pushed to the side for the other priorities of life. However I had an experience this summer that made me realize how much I wanted to get into it. Me and my girlfriend were driving up to her family's cabin in south river, ontario, when my Truck (2007 tundra - stock) started having issues with it's secondary air system that put it in limp mode. Managed to get to the cabin alright, but on the ride home there was no hope of trying to take the highway. A 4 hour trip turned into a 7 hour slog through the backroads. It really opened my eyes up to how awesome it is off the beaten path - tiny little towns, winding roads, amazing views that sneak up on you. I knew I had to get into overlanding.

Anyways, anyone have any recommendations for good trails to cut my teeth on in Ontario? I was thinking the Ottawa valley trail from graveltravel, but would love to hear what else is in my backyard.

Also any recommendations of how I can prepare my Tundra for expeditions. I'm sure I can find enough info from the wealth of info that's on here already, but would love to hear what people have been having success with.

Thanks!
Brian

Hello Brian and Happy New Years
Welcome to the Team from Upstate NY
You have a great platform to build off, and as you will find out quickly there's so many after market options available for the Tundra.
I would say kick back, take notes, and see what works best for you.

I'm building out my Ram with my pups as the central point for the build.
For year one I focused on:
Brakes
Tires
Water
Fuel
New AGM Battery
Recovery Points
Storage Solutions
and
Basic Coms (CB Radio, U-Connect 4g)

Now I will say that one of my favorite YouTube-Overlanding Channels is Edward Chin - who happens to have a Tundra. You might find some interesting content on his channel, and others like Auto Edits, Trail Recon, EFRT, Last Line of Defense, and so much more

Can't wait to see the pics.

Hi Brian

Keep an eye on things ‘round here

We’ll be setting up a rally point for a trip in the spring

The Tracks you mentioned will be a solid chunk of it I think

Talk soon!

Hi Brian, check out the OF4WD of you havnt already. They have maps with trails for 4x4s with challenge ratings and condition changes. Asside from them, I have been to some pretty nice spots around Calabogie, Ardbeg, around the Kawarthas and Lake or Bays area. Been looking into checking out the Vmuts trails near North Bay because I have heard they are pretty scenic.
Like you I enjoy getting out and camping off the grid and my Jeep has gotten me into some pretty awesome secluded spots that I ould never found if it wasn't for that vehicle.
Keep an eye on others builds and how they are set up and I'm sure you will have a plan formed in no time.
