Enthusiast I
Hello everyone,
I recently joined after reigniting my interest in off road exploration. Last summer I had the opportunity to rent a jeep in Telluride, CO and took it across Imogene and Ophir Pass. I had an absolute blast and in short order had a 2019 Tacoma in the driveway and began keyboard overlanding. Since then my wife and I have gone on a few camping trips and done a little exploring in Texas, which can be difficult with the lack of public lands. Anyway, my last bit of any serious off roading was twenty-five years prior to my trip to Telluride where I roamed everywhere I could in my 1972 Ford Bronco.
After that I moved to motorcycles where I've toured all over North America on two wheels, mostly paved but some off-road. Learning to camp on a bike you really learn about only carrying the necessities! While I still love to ride, it is nice to travel together with my wife in the truck and have a more plush bed at night off of the ground!
I've got two trips in the pipeline over the next month or so. We're headed to Bridgeport, TX to an OHV park for a weekend to do a bit of a shakedown and then off to Big Bend in March for a week of exploring the National and State Park down there. Right now we pull a small trailer, an Intech Pursue as we typically make a base camp and explore the area from there but who knows, a RTT might be in our future. I have to admit some of the fun is geeking out over the gear but the real fun is just getting out there so we are really working hard to get out and just add things as we feel we need them. Less cash hanging off my truck means more to put in the tank and get busy being gone.
I've enjoyed what I've seen of the forum and on YouTube so I'm happy to be here and hope to meet many of you in the days, weeks and years to come. Happy Trails, and as us motor-bikers say, keep the rubber side down.
-Frank
