I have a Baofeng 997-s & a Tenway GMRS unit. I have the sane frequencys displaying on both units, when I transmit from the Baofeng I receive loud and clear on the Tenway. Yet when I attempt the reverse from Tenway TO Baofeng I get nothing. Ideas? I’m try on 462.6100 & 462.5500. What am I doing wrong? The Baofeng is usable as HAM or GMRS

I see by reading the HAM/ GMRS thread that I may indeed have one of THOSE Baofeng types. My be the problem? Just one more banned item in Ca.

Might be worthwhile to see if the Baofeng has T-SQL or receive DCS enabled. Look for CT or DCS on the display panel, or browse through the menu to check.

Your Baofeng might be different, but on mine I can turn those off by
  1. Making sure I'm "Frequency mode".
    1. If I'm not, turn the radio off, then hold down the menu button while turning it back on.
    2. Because the process below does not on my radio when in "Channel mode"
  2. Press the menu button, then
  3. up or down until I get to R-CTCS,
  4. menu button again, and
  5. up or down until the display says R-CTCS OFF,
  6. menu again to save, and
  7. exit to leave the menu system.
Repeat the process for R-DCS.

Thank you. I’ll give it a try

I had to do that on my Retevis handhelds. All the channels came preset that way. Took a while to figure out.
