Morning everyone.
New guy here from Queens, NYC... well, for the next week. Just bought an acreage/house in Orange County, NY. Very excited.
I'm still going to need to commute to NYC for work every day. But that thought is unbearable and physically potentially deadly since I sometimes have only a couple of hours between shifts. Hours are extremely long. It's like having two full-time jobs often. Not complaining. I have a dream job and am beyond grateful that I stepped in it.
Anyway, I can't survive driving 50 miles each way every day/night under those circumstances. So, I just ordered an A.R.E. D.C.U. Max for my Crew Cab GMC. My plan is to (yikes) chop the top and build a hard-side pop-up camper with a vertical folding mechanism. It will be nearly identical to what Hiatus Campers (previously Rogue Campers) has ingeniously built. I'm opting to do it myself to save about half the cost as money is tight right now with the move. I'm a Mechanical Engineer by education, a tinkerer, carpenter, blaa blaa blaa... I actually enjoy building things myself. Furthermore, I'm going to customize my rig to such an extent that it would be too difficult and expensive to have someone else do it.
I'm glad I found this awesome forum! Looking forward to participating more!
