So I got a chance to get out there and see some things.
Got dirty with some BLM roads within 1.5 miles of the airbnb. Took my girlfriend out (her only experience off road was an arctic truck in Norway) she loved it.
Drove an hour south in the dark to get some dark sky for milky way shots. I had seen the milky way before but neither my girlfriend nor roommate had. They said it was well worth the trip.
Then on the way back to El Paso, found some more County and BLM roads drove approx 90 min to the caldera of a former volcano to take some photos. Then just to make my inner 12 y/o even more excited, while I was there an Apache (the helicopter kind) came by for some pop-up maneuvers in the caldera and posed for some bad-ass pictures that I'll post later.
Never took it out of 2wd which helps me feel a little more comfortable with taking my own truck places. Obviously, mine's wider, heavier, and longer, but helps me feel more comfortable knowing many things are possible in 2wd.
