We've been using the Cleanwaste for over 2 years. So easy and clean, and compact (like a briefcase). We always have extra bags and extra poo powder. The two of us can use 1 bag per day after setting up camp (usually!) - just sprinkle a tablespoon of the powder after doing the stinky stuff - it works, no stink. We have a large waterproof "dry bag" for the sealed up poop bags and trash. A trick to stretching the use of 1 WAG bag - guys, find a tree first for #1 so you don't fill the bag with yellow jello!
Amazon $70. We also have a popup shower/toilet tent. We rarely use it (but always carry) because we are by ourselves in the sticks most of the time, but sometimes . . . . Definitely this trip ;-)

We ended up with a Visa Potty 268....had really good reviews, and I liked the features. Us boys might still find a tree/cactus/rock to hide behind for #1.... unless that is socially unacceptable now a days

Watch this Post#1 for the occasional update as things progress or change.

Edit: It's time to get committed for this trip! See the details on how to reserve your spot on Post #522. $10 for this kind of party? keep watching this thread for more information about the trip.

Edit 3/3/17: Go Vote on the poll for the collectable and awesome patch for this run! Only a very limited time to vote, get'er done!
Edit 2/12/17: Check Post #404 for another installation of the plan, including Camp Etiquette, Trail Etiquette, Trail Comms and a bit more.
Edit 2/7/2017: Check post #394 for some info. I will add other posts with key info for this trip, then put them together for the trail plan.

Edit 2/2/2017: So all, it's official, @Michael and @Corrie will be joining this trip, it just went from awesome to potentially epic.
Watch in the near future for updates to the end of this thread with some instructions, information and general motivation to make sure you know what you're getting into, either that or what you're gonna miss!
We've sorted out the details of the permit thing, we're getting two permits to cover the group. The vehicle limit will be 40 rigs, which is still huge but I think things will get pretty loose. We'll try to provide some direction, information and structure to make sure you have what you need, but this is an open trail ride in a huge area governed by both the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management, so....
Anyway. I'm stoked, motivated and can't wait for March!

Edit 1/22/2017: Added a video of the Pre-Run on MLK Weekend.

Edit 1/18/2017: I added a trip summary from our pre-run on MLK Weekend, read post #296/#297 if you're interested.

Added 11/14/16:
OK, this has been scheduled for the last weekend in March 2017. Let's move forward and plan this date. This should be an awesome trip.
If any of you have questions about what vehicle requirements are, if you wonder if your vehicle is appropriately equipped for this trip, post up!

Background: The Mojave Road is an historic road that runs basically from the Colorado River near the California/Arizona/Nevada border into the Mojave desert, terminating somewhere west of Baker, CA. More history to follow.

The general plan: March is a good time to visit, daytime temperatures are moderate, nighttime temps are tolerable if not chilly.

Rendezvous point #1 will be the Avi Casino just North of I-40 near the Colorado river. You have to go North about 3 miles from there to find the road (rendezvous #2). We'll start with that. This is an easy trail to jump out at various points if you need to make it shorter.

Fixed Dates: March 24 - 26, 2017 (Meet Friday Morning, hit the trail, finish Sunday afternoon)

Possibility of 30 or more rigs! Wow, this will be an undertaking for sure.
Not un-manageable, but it looks like we'll need a permit for sure, I'll follow up.
Really looking forward to this.

More info to come:
- Trail Comms
- Common meals / potluck?
- Sightseeing along the way - what to see?
- Other?
************************************** End 11/21/16 Edit

Vehicle requirements: Although I've heard tales of VW Vans and Pontiacs taking this trail, I would suggest at least stock 4WD as some of the trails can best be navigated with added traction. This is not a difficult trail but 3 days on dirt roads can be demanding. Small trailer friendly is my estimation as well.
Let's discuss more if you have questions about your particular vehicle and equipment.

...and here's March 2017.

Hey All, throwing a reminder up that the time to commit is now.

There are some spots left before we hit the 40 vehicle limit.
If you plan to go, check post #522 for the simple way to put down some dough and get ready to go.

For those of you that may be on the fence, I think this will hit the max by the weekend.

Keep an eye on this thread for additional information, I'll let everyone know the rendezvous points and the rest of the map details pretty soon.

If you plan to use a GPS of any kind, I'll attach a basic .gpx file of the road soon.

In the meantime, I still have a day job that seems to be very distracting to what I really want to do and where I really want to be! [emoji24] [emoji2] .

See you soon.

Dan

Hi all!

@Corrie and I are confirmed and we'll be joining this awesome group! We can't wait!

I know its been mentioned, but you should bring everything you think you will need for you and your crew. The great thing about traveling with a group though, is that if you forget something, @fj80toyman probably has it :flushed: :tearsofjoy: Just kidding. SOMEONE probably has it.

Do us a big favor if you have not already and fill out this form that @Tom K put together so we know a little about you! We are gathering this info so we can coordinate a group of skilled drivers before the trip to discuss the event.

Survey: Driver Form

Thanks all! More soon!

Michael

Who's excited? :)

OK - So our main man @BazzaJ is coming with us on this trek and he's bringing his camera! But we need some transportation assistance from So CA, if possible?

Baz is based in LA/Hollywood, and would need transport for himself, his gear and a tent to the rendezvous point, and then a ride back.

Is anyone coming from that area?

He would also be able to drive to a point off of the 15/10, and then park his vehicle in a safe location for the weekend.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Compensation involved!

Corrie

The Countdown begins!

There are 34 trucks with reserved spots, only six spots left until we hit the 40 vehicle max!

Some familiar (to me!) faces, and lots of opportunities to make some new friends.

See post #522 for the details if you haven't reserved your spot yet.

I'm fairly certain I won't have time to do diff breathers.. Is the critical? I have no issue draining and refilling the diffs after I get home.

Scratch that
. looks like dodge did something right in 2004, and the truck came factory with extended breathers. Front breather goes up into the engine bay and the rear breather routes above the rear shocks so I should be good.

I was happy to see that.. One less project to complete before the trip. I already need to load up and install led lighting on my rack to shine in my bed at night.. Assuming the lighting gets here in time.
