Originally I had planned this trip in October but some stuff came up that I can't avoid, and more importantly my wife can come with me only in December soooo…December it is. With my wife's company in mind I'm going to ignore the northern route out to the west coast that I originally planned as she is not a cold weather person and I'd like her to be as comfy as possible. Also, doing this trip with her will be great as we're still deciding on where we would like to move in a couple years and this allows us to cruise through some areas that have been on my radar but that she hasn't ever visited.
My question is about Missouri, Oklahoma and northern Texas (maybe Kansas), places I haven't spent too much time in camping or exploring but will be cutting through. I'd love to take some scenic routes or trails now and then that keep us off the long boring highways and maybe camp for a day or two along the way. I've googled a bunch of course but am hoping some of the awesome members here might have some better ideas or suggestions.
Ideally I'd prefer to BLM it or visit someones secret camp spot if I can. :)
I'm taking the whole month off for this so I don't need to stick to this route at all, it's just for reference.
Also, do these states require any off road ORV permits that I should be aware of?
AND, I will have two dogs with me if that factors in to anything.
Thanks!!!
