Hey All,
I'll be finding myself in Santa Fe, NM around the second week in May and I'll eventually be heading to Las Vegas. I'm looking for some fun, not too gnarly trails to hit up on the way. I was looking at Imogene Pass, but that might still be covered in snow. I know there's got to be some amazing drives to be had. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi David! I presume you'll be hitting Santa Fe via the 40? If so there's the Cedro Peak trail in Albuquerque. Takes a few hours to complete and has some decent obstacles through the trail. As far as Colorado goes the Alpine Loop is a must hit trail in SW CO for sure!

Hey man,
Thanks for the info. You think that alpine loop will be open mid may?

The loop “should” be open at lower elevations, the higher passes will require calling ahead closer to when you’ll be going. Colorado is still getting some stray storms so it’s a gamble right now to say one way or another. Honestly you can’t go wrong with anywhere in the four corners area, my wife and I frequently go up there during the summer and warmer times when possible.

I live in SW Colorado, I haven’t been on any of the trails yet this year, but the mountains are still covered, so I doubt the trails are open going across the passes. Most years it’s late June to July before they open.

something you might look at is the NMBDR, you could do the section between Abiquiu and Grants and maybe Mt Taylor.
